Revolutionizing Pediatric Vision Therapy
Overview
Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye, affects roughly 3% of newborns worldwide and prevents normal visual development if left untreated. For nearly 1,100 years, the standard treatment remained virtually unchanged: forcing children to wear an eye patch over their healthy eye. This archaic approach causes physical discomfort and social distress, leading to low compliance among young patients and frustration for parents. Bloo Vision introduces a breakthrough alternative through dichoptic training—a method that encourages both eyes to work together seamlessly without physical occlusion. By delivering software-independent dichoptic therapy on a lightweight, affordable tablet device, Bloo Vision provides children and parents with an engaging, comfortable, and sustainable path toward vision recovery.
Why We Started
Despite having no background in medicine, I felt a strong desire as a designer to dedicate my creative and technical skills toward solving a meaningful social problem. While working on a separate project involving modified LCD screens, I realized this display customization could be repurposed to control visual perception for dichoptic vision training. At the time, VR-based therapies were emerging as an alternative to eye patching, but they remained prohibitively expensive, heavy for young children during 30-minute sessions, and locked into limited software content. Recognizing that modified LCD hardware could solve these pain points at a fraction of the cost, I channeled my passion into building a dedicated solution from the ground up.
How We Launched
By engineering custom modified LCD screens, we invented a dedicated tablet device that enables dichoptic vision training without relying on specific software applications or heavy head-mounted displays. By separating visual stimuli directly through a lightweight screen, we eliminated the discomfort of VR headsets while keeping hardware costs accessible for families. We built functional prototypes, brought the technology into medical settings, and validated its efficacy through clinical trials in Japan. Armed with clinical proof and a clear product vision, we pitched at international startup competitions, delivered official presentations to government leaders, and secured angel funding to accelerate our journey.

What We Achieved
Clinical Trial Validation in Japan
Successfully conducted medical clinical trials in Japan, establishing solid scientific efficacy for the non-occlusive tablet training device.
UPRISE Festival Pitch Victory
Awarded first place at the UPRISE Festival pitch competition in Europe, gaining international recognition within the tech and startup ecosystem.
Official Presentation to Taipei Mayor
Invited by the Taiwan government to deliver an official presentation to the Mayor of Taipei, showcasing the technology's global expansion potential.
Secured Angel Investor Funding
Successfully raised seed capital from angel investors to accelerate hardware prototyping, clinical testing, and market validation.

Key Learnings
Transitioning from an agency vendor giving advice to an active founder revealed the true weight of execution. As a service provider, offering strategic guidance is straightforward, but as an operator navigating strict constraints of time and capital, every choice demands swift, objective judgment and full accountability. This founder journey taught me the vital importance of ruthless prioritization, decisive action, and adaptability when building a mission-driven business.
